Staff Hours, Shifts & Overtime Rules
Shift start 15-minute buffer, attendance recording, shift closure rules, and standard overtime rate.
Start Shift Availability & Buffer
The "Start Shift" action becomes accessible to employees exactly 15 minutes before their scheduled shift start.
For example, if an employee is scheduled to start at 09:00, Start Shift becomes active at 08:45. Employees may log in and start late if necessary. The system records the precise actual start time, actual end time, and total worked duration.
Access to the Staff Hours page is restricted exclusively to the Owner.
Closed Staff Hours Are Read-Only
Once a shift is officially closed, the recorded timestamps and hours are locked and cannot be edited afterward to ensure audit integrity.
Forgotten Shift Closures
If an employee departs without tapping "End Shift": the Owner can manually close the shift from the Open Shifts monitoring screen by manually entering the actual End Time. The system then recalculates the worked duration and applicable Hourly pay. If the Owner does nothing, the system automatically closes the shift at the scheduled shift end. After closure, the record cannot be edited.
The system does not perform automatic break deductions. OCTK Restaurant OS is an operational shift tracking tool, not a complex external payroll accounting engine.
Overtime Calculation Rules
Overtime begins accumulating automatically for hours worked beyond official scheduled working time. The overtime compensation rate is calculated at the standard 1.0x hourly rate.
